Supermodel Naomi Sims Passed Away!
The New York Times reported Naomi Sims, the first black supermodel has passed away of cancer this past Saturday at the age of 61.

She is the native of Pittsburg who overcame some series of obstacles in her life to become the first black woman to cover Ladies Home Journal in 1968. Naomi walked for several designers through their runway shows such as Teal Traina, Fernando Sánchez, and Giorgio di Sant’Angelo. She covered Cosmopolitan issue in 1973, and appeared in spreads for Life and the Times Style Magazines.
Designer Halston once said “Naomi was the first. She was the great ambassador for all black people. She broke down all the social barriers.” New York Times 1974
Naomi knocking down doors by grace of her sheer determination and undeniable beauty to some other black models like Beverly Johnson, Naomi Campbell, and Chanel Iman to name a few.
She will always be remembered in our heart as an icon, a true fashion trailblazer, and one of the first to set the tone for diversity and inclusion. Rest in Peace Naomi!
